Nestled in the famous Brahmapurta Valley, Assam houses a number of wildlife sanctuaries and national parks where you can encounter a great variety of rare and endangered wildlife. Of the 41-listed endangered wildlife species, around 20 are found in the wildlife sanctuaries of Assam.

Kaziranga is the most well known national park of the state and is famous across the world, but apart from it, Assam is also home to a number of other important wildlife sanctuaries and parks. Amongst these are Manas National Park, Nameri National Park, Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, Rajiv Gandhi (Orang) National Park, Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary, Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary, Nambor Wildlife Sanctuary and Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary. Of these wildlife sanctuaries and parks, Manas National Park along with, ofcourse, Kaziranga National Park is designated a World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

Assam is best-known for the one-horned rhinoceros, found in large numbers at Kaziranga National Park. Other important wildlife species found in the wildlife sanctuaries of Assam are Tiger, Clouded Leopard, Gangetic Dolphins, Golden Langur, Swamp Deer, Pygmy Hog, Hoolock Gibbon, White-Winged Woodduck and Hispid Hare. Besides, during winter season a large number of resident and migratory birds flock the state and make it their natural habitats.

The wildlife sanctuaries of Assam can be explored on jeeps, elephants or on boats. Take any of the safaris and spot herds of Wild Elephants, Wild Buffalo, Wildboar, Hog Deer, Antelope, Sambar and a large number of water birds as well as migratory species, including Hornbills and Storks.
