
One
of India's economically weak states, Bihar is home to a number of popular
destinations of India. Situated in northern-eastern part of India, Bihar
occupies the flat eastern Ganges basin which is highly fertile. Bihar is
bordered by the Kingdom of Nepal to the north and on its three sides by the
Indian states of Uttar Pradesh (west), West Bengal (east) and Jharkhand
(south). Historically Bihar is an important place and it remained the
heartland of several great kingdoms namely Magadhas, Mauryas, Guptas, Muslim
Sultanate and Mughals.
Patna is the state capital, which is also a historical place and now houses
a number of tourists attractions. Close to Patna, Vaishali, Rajgir and
Bodhgaya are the places which are linked to Lord Buddha. It is believed that
in the 6th century BC, Prince Gautam visited Vaishali and Rajgir, before
reaching Bodhgaya where he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree.
Bihar was the first centre of Buddhism in North India and the major events
of Buddha's took place here, so the regions close to Patna draw Buddhist
pilgrims from all over the world. Apart from a pilgrimage destination, Bihar
