Bogmalo is located in Mormugao Taluka, just 4 kms south of Dabolim airport
and 10 kms from Vasco da Gama city.
An amazing blend of tranquility and modernization, sprinkled with natural
beauty, Bogmalo is the place where you can gracefully lose yourself. With
pictursque green hills on its three sides, grainy golden sand and fine surf,
Bogmalo will provide you an experience decidedly different from other Goan
beaches. If you are taking an early morning flight from the Dabolim airport,
Bogmalo is a nice place to spend your night. And, if your flight is in the
late afternoon then Bogmalo is a fantastic place to enjoy a relaxed lunch by
the cool blue sea.
Formerly a fishing village, Bogmalo has now become one of Goa's most
attractive beaches. One of the least crowded Goan beaches, Bogmalo is clean,
outstretched, flat and open. Despite cluster of beach shack restaurants and
modern hi-tech shops selling handicrafts in its vicinity, Bogmalo will
mesmerize you with its unique charm.
Water Sports :
Diving is the prime attraction of the
Bogmalo beach. You can indulge yourself in diving by taking diving courses
at school run by Scotsman Willie Downey. Bogmalo diving school offers
courses in casual diving as well as PADI open water. The school will also
give you a certificate permitting you to dive anywhere around the world.
The sea at Bogmalo beach is mostly safe for
swimming though the surf can be dangerous. At Issorcham, there is a water
stream, so at the time of high tide stay within the waist-deep area.
Leisure Activities :
Fishing is the main leisure option which you can try at Bogmalo beach. After
fishing enjoy delicious Goan food as well as seafood at the eating joints
and restaurants located along the sea coast.
Issorcim (Hollant) Beach :
Just 1.5 km ahead of the
Bogmalo, there is a fork in the road, take left and you will reach a little
beach called Issorcim. Spend some quite moments at this secluded beach and
also try your hands at fishing. Apart from Grande Island, Issorcim is the
only place where corals grow. You will be able to see corals on days when
the water remains very clear. If you love to accept challenges, do the trek
from Bogmalo to Issorcim for fantastic views of the Mormugao coast.
Sao Jacinto Island :
Take a trip to the San Jacinto Island
which is 5 kms away from Bogmalo. Sao Jacinto Island is located in the
Mormugao bay, connected by a causeway with Panaji-Vasco highway. In this
lovely little island you will see a number old houses and also a magnificent
church. Beyond it, a path will take you up the hill to a view-point, where
you can get excellent view of the surroundings. In the middle of the island
is a old spring, still used by the local people for their drinking water.
At low tide move from Sao Jacinto Island to
Chicalim. Further up the road towards Vasco da Gama is a small islet
(locally called as San Antonio) having a crucifix. Here, at the time of low
tide you can see hundreds of men and women collecting teesria or juicy calms
from the waters.
