Kangra Trekking Adventure Vacation

Kangra is a beautiful valley located in the Himachal Pradesh State. The place used to be an independent district before the formation of the state. Kangra is famous for its landscape and a little population that lives here. With several popular tourist places, like Dharamsala, in its vicinity the valley is one play ground tourists step upon.

Trekking at Kangra
Kangra lies situated in the lower Himalayas with an average altitude of about 2400 metres. The slopes run in a zig zag orders and the trails are inviting for the rock climbers. A number of streams descends down the mountains and through the valley. The slopes are gentle and feature pine forests and orchards.

The famous Dhauladhar Ranges rises above the town and envelopes round it. From the valley floor the mountains rise to a good 14,000 feet. Through the mountains are some amazing treks and passes that lead further to other places like Mc Leod Ganj and Dharamsala. Forests, Shepherd trails provide a unique opportunity of exploring the sky reaching peaks. The Indrahar Pass that lies at an altitude of about 4380 metres offer mind blowing views of the countryside and the great Himalayas.

Kangra is also famous for more than just mountaineering. The temples located in the town are great tourist attractions. The Laxminarayan and Sitamala Temple are two popular attractions at Kangra. There are more including Ambika Temple and Jain shrines.

Popular Treks
Most of the treks to Kangra start from Dharamsala. Other two destination from which trail starts include Baijnath and Palampur. The treks take a weeks time to explore. Bhimghasutri Pass, Talang Pass, Shinghor Pass and Indrahar Pass provide accessibility through the ranges.

Kangra Climate
Kangra enjoys a pleasant climate with the summers reaching a maximum temperature of 38 °C and minimum of 22 °C. The winters are chilling and mercury lowers to 0 °C. During winters temperature goes to a maximum of 15 °C. The late summer and late winter period are best seasons to visit.

Transportation for Kangra
The nearest airport serving the region is at Gaggal, some 30 kms from Kangra. Railhead is a little far and the nearest, Pathankot, is about 103 kms from Kangra. Bus services are available from the neighbouring towns and cities of Himachal Pradesh.
