Introducing Kufri

A
small hill station, located 19 kms away from Shimla, Kufri abounds with
tourists and adventure seekers all through the year. Endowed with some great
skiing, some hiking, some picturesque scenery and a pleasant environment,
Kufri is nothing short of a paradise for visitors.
Once a part of the Kingdom of Nepal, Kufri region remained unnoticed till
1819, when the British discovered it as a hill resort. In the year 1864, the
British made Shimla their summer capital and it remained until 1939. After
Indias independence in 1947, Shimla gained importance and Kufri also
got recognition as a tourist destination to visit nearby Shimla.
Skiing in Kufri
If you love adventure and wish to experience nature at its best, then
skiing in Kufri is a perfect option for you. In fact, any trip to Himachal
Pradesh is not complete without enjoying the adventure sport of skiing in
Kufri.
Skiing in Himachal Pradesh is a very old adventure activity which was first
introduced in 1930 by British Army, when they explored the Kufri slopes
around 12 kms north of Shimla. Later, the Kufri slopes were developed where
the ski-enthusiasts flocked during the winter season.
From a beginners run to an advanced slope and slalom run, Kufri
offers excellent skiing opportunities for both novice as well as experienced
people. Just above Kufri region, the Mahasu ridge also boasts of some good
skiing slopes.
In Kufri, skiing season usually extends between November to February, when
the ridge wears its white winter apparel, with snow trimming on its tall
deodars and green pines.
Moreover, nature itself decorates Kufris undulating slopes to amaze
the winter sports lovers.

Training Courses for Skiing
At Kufri, the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department offers training courses
and guidance on Skiing. In addition to these, ski equipments are also
available on hire at the Kufri Club.
Tourist Attractions Around Kufri
Fagu (6 kms) : From Kufri, take a wonderful drive along
the Hindustan-Tibet road to reach the beautiful destination of Fagu.
Situated at an altitude of 2,450 m above the sea level, Fagu is blessed with
some spectacular views. Reach this place and pass some peaceful moment
amidst the natural surroundings.
Shimla (19 kms) :
Just 19 kms from Kufri, Shimla is an important destination in Himachal
Pradesh. Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh came under worlds
knowledge when the British discovered it in the year 1819. Set amidst the
magnificent Shivalik range and Shimla hills, the town houses a number of
tourist attractions including some old and modern temples.
Reaching Kufri
Kufri does not have its own airport or a railway station, but the town is
well-connected by good motorable roads. From Shimla, Narkanda and Rampur
regular buses ply to Kufri. You can also hire taxis from Shimla to reach
hilly town of Kufri. You can also explore Kufri and its nearby areas on
horseback.
