Introducing Bharatpur
Bharatpur, popular as the Eastern Gate of Rajasthan bears a great
historical and tourist attraction. Bharatpur lies at the eastern border of
the Rajasthan and close to the Uttar Pradesh state. It (Bharatpur) is only
55 kms from the Agra city. The city was founded in the year 1733 A.D., by
Maharaja Suraj Mahal. The city at that time was famous as Mewat. The city
was protected by impregnable walls and constituted a fortified town. The
city, in the 17th century, was dominated by the Jat clan and there influence
can still be found in the city. The avian sanctuary that stands situated on
its grounds is one of the best in the world.
Tourist Attractions At Bharatpur
Bharatpur is one of the most frequently visited place in Rajasthan. The
city is gifted with a number of tourist attractions. The bird sanctuary
rooted here is one reason that tourists travel to this place. Apart from
that there are several other historic places worth visiting in the city.

Keoladeo
Ghana National Park : Keoladeo National Park or Keoladeo Ghana
National Park is one of the best of its kind in the sub continent. Spread
over 29 sq kms of land area, the sanctuary supports as many as 375 species
of birds. Some rare migratory bird species dwell in the park during
migratory periods. Many of these birds travel all the way from Siberia and
Europe. Some commonly noticed species include Coot Snipes, Spanish Sparrow,
Red Crested Porhard, Rosy Pelican and Flamingo. The park is also inhabited
by many wild species of mammals and reptiles. Commonly spotted ones are
Pythons, Spotted Deer, Sambhars, Blue Bull, Black Buck, Jackals, Otters,
Fishing Cats, Monitor Lizards.
Lohagarh Fort : The
fort was one impregnable fort that annoyed British more than once. Lohargarh
Fort was attacked four times by the British Power towards the end of the
medieval era, but all in vain. The fort was finally captured in 1804, the
British troops being led by Lord Lake. The fort was known for its incredible
strength to withstand the attacks. The fort further houses a number of
monuments, including halls and towers of fame.
Government Museum : It is located within the fort complex.
This part of the building is called Kamra Khas. The museum exhibits a rich
collection of artefacts and sculptures. Also displayed are ancient
inscriptions and some historical pieces.
The Palace : Bharatpur Palace is a medley of Mughal and
Rajput architecture. The palace was built in various phases and by different
Maharajas. The flooring is done with intriactely designed tiles. The palace
lies adjacent to the museum.
How To Reach
By Air : The nearest airport for Bharatpur is the one
located at Agra. The airport is about 55 kms from the city.
By Rail : Train services are available for the region. One
can easily reach the place by boarding a train from Delhi, Jaipur and Agra.
By Bus : Both long and short distance bus services are
available from different cities, within the state and beyond state.
