Rajasthan Fairs and Festivals
The fairs and festivals of Rajasthan are yet other means to get to know about the distinct traditions and culture piously followed and practiced by the local population. More than that these events are really amusing and have a definite influence on the people; they do cast a spell. Fairs are more inclined at providing amusement and are complemented with popular performances - singing and dancing. Some festivals, with religious attributes, are more than moral obligations and as such are observed with due rituals and ceremonies. The festivals by far are the most exciting moments to capture the vivid pictures of this bright state.

Many of the popular festivals of Rajasthan witness an active participation of both men and women. In some festivals women play a major role and thus are celebrated with much devotion by them rather than men folk. Some common practices during festive days include decoration of houses, bazaars, religious places; processions - elephant marches, camel marches; observing rituals, offerings and chanting devotional hymns; preparation of popular food dishes; and more.

The fairs are more like carnivals. One feels like stepping into an amusement park while participating in the celebrations. Fairs like Camel Fair and Cattle Fair are famous all over the sub continent. A great number of traders, that come from different cities, assemble at one place and trade for their livestock. There are cultural performances, local entertainers, food stalls, small open air markets, some exciting sports, etc. All this contributes to give the place a unique identity.
