Festival Overview
Nagaur is a small town in the state of Rajasthan. Every year in the month of Jan-Feb an animal fair is held with the town - called Nagaur Fair. This very fair has been amassing great number of people from all corners of the state and is now one of the most celebrated festivals in the region and around. The fair sees a large number of livestock traders coming forward for their deal. The fair is accompanied by great many activities including some exciting sports and competitions, installation of roadside markets, entertainment and amusement provided by road performers, etc.

Activities
Animal fair is the chief feature of the Nagaur festival. The celebrations last for good eight days and it is estimated that 210,000 animals are traded, which include camels, bullocks and horses. The animals brought to the fair are fully groomed and the whole event is a show off. It is a real crowd, but an interesting one.

Other activities include sports and competitions like tug of war, camel races, bullock races cock fighting, etc. There are not any great awards or medals to be won and the people who participate do it more to prove their mettle. Great applause, shouts and noise fill the air during the events.

Performances of traditional dances and folk music further lifts up the spirits. It is a grand carnival and the local people seldom miss it. Traders, artisans, entertainers, adults, children, young people - all bear an active participation.
Where to Reach
To witness this grand show all you need to do is to reach the Nagaur town. The town is in proximity to the city of Jodhpur. One can reach the city by air, rails or roads. From there on buses and private taxis are available. The last part as such would be an on road journey.
