Festival Overview
Shekhawati is a cultural festival celebrated for two days - 10th and 11th
February every year. The festival is celebrated in several regions that
share the cultural likeness and include Nawalgarh, Sikar, Jhunjhunu and
Churu. It is at this occasion that the people celebrate their annual
productive output. The festival as such marks an equal response throughout,
from rural to urban segments of population.
History
Shekhawati is a popular cultural festival and its origins are hard to
trace. The city Shekhawati, which has derived its name from the popular clan
'Shekhawats' have left many a threads of cultural distinctness. Places where
the festival is celebrated owes much to this clan and that is one theory
which suggests that possibly this practice came into existence with the
popular leadership. In its present form the culture recieves patronage from
the district and state administration, who jointly organized cultural events
during the festive period.
Celebrations
The festival is marked by cultural performances which include folk songs
and dances. The fair however provides for visits to the beautiful and famous
havelis. Fireworks make the celebrations more lively.
Where to Reach
The fesival is celebrated in the regions of Nawalgarh, Sikar, Jhunjhunu and
Churu. These places are connected by road networks with that of other cities
of Rajasthan. The regions fall to the north of Jaipur and transportation
services may be availed from the same place.
