Palace Hotels - Foundation
Rajasthan state is one major tourist hub in the Indian sub continent. The
state encompasses numerous attractions within its territory, most of them
built during 7th to 19th century. Rajasthan state in medieval and early
modern era comprised of small princely states, each ruled by a local ruler.
The region, during the entire period, was dominated by the Rajput rulers.
These states enjoyed great prosperity as the rulers maintained cordial
relations with the powerful north Indian kings, especially the Mughals.
These princely states were also free from the clutches of imperial powers.
Royalty as such was preserved till India got its independence. By that time
many palaces have been erected, that served as the residential places of the
royal families. With the birth of the nation, the descendents of the royal
families were left with no option but to convert their luxurious palaces
into five star hotels. By doing that they some how secured their hold on
their private property. The hotels, that previously existed as luxurious
palaces, attracted a lot many tourists and ascertained a new title -
Heritage Hotels.
Palace Hotels and Heritage Hotels
Palace Hotels refers to a very specific genre or category of hotels.
Tourists and travellers often get confused by this distinction, distinction
between Palace Hotels and Heritage Hotels. Though small, but there is a line
of distinction between Palace Hotels and Heritage Hotels, as exist today.
The hotels that constituted the private residential places of the royal
families were converted into hotels and its these places that actually make
the Palace Hotels. These hotels also happen to be the heritage hotels.
During the last half of the 20th century there has been a large scale
sprouting of the hotels in the state and many of them claim theirs as
heritage hotel. Some of these hotels have been built with the blue prints
taken as the Palace Hotels. The hotels are entitled heritage but can't be
the Palace Hotels.
