Palaces of Rajasthan are considered to be among the most luxurious residential places ever built. The Rajputs ruled the city for more than twelve centuries; from 6th century A.D. to 19th century, and during this time a number of royal buildings were erected. Back then the state was a collection of independent states and there were local rulers for every state. Some of the rulers of these now existing cities were ambitious and had real love for architecture and construction. With enormous wealth and resources at hand they build grand palaces and left the heritage to the following generations.

The Maharajas seem to have been inspired by Mughal architecture and their love for building great mansions. The palaces built by the Maharajas of Rajasthan bear resemblance with the popular buildings built by their counterparts in other states. The palaces of Rajasthan provide ample proof for this and impressions of Mughal architecture are quite dominant in them. The palaces were further provided with great treasures in the form of decorations and many of these are still to be found at these sites.

Palaces of Rajasthan make up many of the key tourist attractions spread at large in the state. These palaces are either protected by the state architecture agencies or have been converted into five star hotels. Some popular ones in the state include :
