Introducing Ranakpur
Ranakpur is a small township that lies some 63 kilometres from Udaipur
city. The place was named after Rana Kumbha who offered his land for the
construction of a great Jain temple. The place is famous throughout the
state for a number of splendid Jain temples, built during the medieval
times. It is one of the five main pilgrimage sites for the Jains.
Jain Temples at Ranakpur
Ranakpur is famous for several religious shrines of Jains located here. The
Jain Temples are the key attractions and every year thousands of tourists
reach the place, to pay homage. The basement over which these temples stand,
occupies about 48,000 square feet of area. Apart from the main shrine there
are three other subsidiary ones. The place features as many as 24 halls with
some 1,444 columns - four hundred where the shrines stand. The main temple
is dedicated to Adinath and is called Chaumukh. The halls are topped with
domes. One interesting fact about the columns is that none of them match
perfectly. There is an assembly hall with two large bells weighing about
hundred kilograms.
Temples are also located in the regions around. The place
called Sadri, eight kms from Ranakpur, is known for Varahavtar temple and
Chintamani Parsvanath temple. Desuri, one more place around and about 16 kms
away from Ranakpur, houses some of the frequently visited temples.

Bus and train services are the convenient means of accessing the place. The
Phalna Station, some 27 kms from Ranakpur is the nearest rail head. From
there buses are available. The bus services from Udaipur and Mt Abu provide
for reaching the place. One can also reach the place by boarding a bus at
Jodhpur and bound to the same destination.
