Mysore To Ooty Trip
Ooty is a very popular hill station in South India and can be conveniently reached from Mysore. Buses are the apt ways to reach Ooty, since the hill town does not have an airport as well as a railway station. The nearest railhead is at Mettupalayam.
Bangalore To Ooty
The nearest airport to Ooty connecting to Bangalore is the Coimbatore airport. From the airport taxis are available for Ooty charging around Rs 2,500. Mettupalayam is the closest train station and one can get a taxi to Ooty which charges about Rs 1000.
Ooty is a destination that can be visited all through the year. Summers are pleasant, winters are cool, and monsoons are beautiful. Summers during March to May have an average temperature in the range 15°C to 20°C. Summers maximum temperature never crosses 25°C. Winters during November to January are very pleasant and cool with minimum touching below 4°C and maximum ranges about 15°C. Monsoons offer good rainfall during June to September. February-March is spring and October-November is autumn.
Places To Visit in Ooty
The 22 Acre Botanical Garden was laid out in 1847 and is presently maintained by the government of Tamil Nadu. The original purpose of the 'Botanical Gardens' was purely academic: to promote and study the various flora in and around Nilgiris. Now, it is open to the public as a park that can be enjoyed by visitors.
The serene hill station of Coonoor lies in the arms of the Nilgiri Hills. In fact Coonoor is located at an altitude of 1800 m. Geographically speaking, Coonoor lies at the head of Hulikal ravine.This picturesque retreat is covered by grassy meadows, tea bushes, a profusion of sunflowers, marigolds and rhododendrons, all growing wild.
Among the populat Ooty sightseeing destinations is Fernhill Palace was the erstwhile summer residence of the Maharaja of Mysore.The first Fernhills bungalow was built in 1844. This former palace situated around 1 km from the Ooty bus stand can be visited for an entry fee of Rs 50.
This toy train service was first started between Coonoor and Metupalyam during 1899. But the line was extended upto Ooty during 1908. The passenger service was started on 15.10.1908 from Ooty to Coonoor. This is the only heritage train and runs at the highest elevated place in Southern India. The service comes under Niligiri Mountain Railway (NMR) and is a major tourist attraction. Approximately 5lakh people travel every year in this toy train.
